They were constitutionally a democratic republic, but functioned as an oligarchy. nNull was originally formed as a coalition of Lost Worlds during the () period. The Divisionists continued to use nNull as a tool to prolong the War until (Date), when rebel groups from within nNull destroyed (city) and killed the last Serpent, along with its surveillance network.

History

nNull was formed from a collection of federations of worlds abandoned by the Citawhego, colloquially known as the Lost Worlds. As such, its people were extremely diverse genetically and culturally. During the events of SunSong it was revealed that the nation was created by Divisionists in order to plunge the galaxy into an endless war. This conflict was nurtured by nNull through the use of spies, false flag attacks and other covert ops, and perpetuated for a thousand years. After the events of SunSong, the death of one half of The Serpent and the release of the Gentle Conjecture, resistance to nNull's restrictions and surveillance grew.

Government

nNull was, in name, a Representative democracy. The people could vote for candidates to represent them in the nation's various councils and committees. In reality, it was nearly impossible to be elected to one of these governing bodies without preexisting political power or significant wealth. As a result, the economic elite ruled nNull on most local levels and exercised considerable control over the nation. Though the () was said to be the highest governing body of nNull, there were always rumors that the group reported to a higher power, fueled by (). Culture

nNull culture revolved around the careful management of what little privacy was afforded them. Systems of surveillance inside of nNull were pervasive and the data collected widely available. This permitted researchers and informants alike access to almost every aspect of nNull life, leading to major breakthroughs in science, technology, and social control. Several major artistic and literary movements responded to this pervasive visibility.

Technology

nNull developed as a hot bed of advanced technology, and produced many developments that are now commonplace throughout the galaxy, including Augmented Reality and the Merit Drive. The mech developers Draig and JiShou had their headquarters in nNull space. Less glamorous, but still widely used, were nNull's data management and surveillance software.
