Overview

The Molten Legion were a major faction in the Milky Way known for their militant culture and rivalry with the Church of Sovereign Light.

History

They originated in the warrior caste of the Army of Sovereign Light. When the army halted expansion, it found little need for its extensive military apparatus, and struggled to downsize. Military leaders became dissatisfied by their lack of purpose and agency under the rule of the prophets, and soon united behind ().

() was a () who claimed to have a connection to Vedhura, the god of both Sovereign Light and the Molten Legion. He said that the prophets had distorted the message of Vedhura in order to oppress and control humanity, and that the members of (warrior caste) were, in reality, a chosen people. In this theology, the (), or Molten Legion, had a religious imperative to throw off the rule of the Prophets and conquer and protect select systems valuable to Vedhura.

His theology was radical, but his platform addressed the growing malaise among the (), and soon grew into a full populist revolution. The Church of Sovereign Light struggled to control a revolution involving the majority of their military personnel, and after a drawn out conflict eventually managed to drive the Molten Legion outside of their territory, shrinking their borders for the first time in order to solidify the exile.

The Molten Legion spent several years attempting to re-invade Sovereign space, but eventually turned to the rest of the galaxy. According to the mandates of their leader, now (), the daughter of (), they attacked and conquered several "holy" star systems, establishing a foothold in the galaxy that only grew.

Despite their military prowess, the Molten Legion were a relatively small and exclusive group, and never held large amounts of galactic territory. They instead focused on specific star systems that were significant to their religion, incurring onto other factions territory in order to "properly steward" and "protect" them, and claiming divine right to them.

After the Gentle COnjecture, the Prophets of the Church of Sovereign light reapproached the Molten Legion and began courting their favor, apparently offerring an official apology for their exile. after much debate, the apology was accepted, along with many () by the church that the Molten Legion felt would prevent a return to prophet subjugation,(maybe more on this) and the Molten Legion rejoined with the Church of Sovereign light in (date). The issue of rejoining the Church was not an easy one, and caused major strife within the Legion, which crytstalized in the form of the Eclipse. The Eclipse was a dissident group who were against the (), and after the () they took military action against the Church, stoking a civil war. The war only lasted a few years, eventually ending in a battle at () with the death of the Eclipses leader, Lady Titania.
